Vijayawada: Pontiff from Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham Jayendra Saraswathi on Friday installed the idol of Jagadguru Adi Shankaracharya on the premises of Sri Venkateswara Swamy Devasthanam, Labbipet here.

Says the teachings of Sri Adi Shankara continue to hold much significance in present-day society

Temple committee chairman Maganti Subramanyam welcomed the seer with temple honours. Amidst chanting of Vedic hymns and traditional rituals associated with the installation of the idol, the seer offered puja to the idol.

Earlier, the seer participated in the Chathurveda Parayanam, Mantapa Devatha Homam, Nitya Baliharam and other rituals. A large number of devotees, including women and children, waited for their turn in the serpentine queues to get the Jagadguru's darshan. This is the first temple in the city dedicated to Adi Shankaracharya in Kancheepuram tradition.

Speaking on the occasion, Jayendra Saraswathi stressed the need for preserving the glory of Hindu religion. He said that the teachings of Sri Adi Shankara continue to hold much significance in present-day society.

Adi Shankara worked for the welfare of society right from his childhood. The great philosopher also won respect for helping the needy. Describing Adi Shankara as a “mobile library,” Sri Jayendra Saraswathi said his writings mapped the various philosophical aspects of human life, even as many of his observations were hailed all over the world.
