Pithapuram (East Godavari): Senior civil judge Ammannaraja has opined that rural people should have an understanding of laws to reduce the volume of litigation in courts. Speaking as chief guest at an awareness programme, held under the aegis of Mandal legal literacy authority, at Gokivada village of the Mandal on Sunday, the senior civil judge laid emphasis on villagers having awareness on laws of the land and crime and punishment.

  • The objective of the programme is to use the students as a medium to create awareness among the people about the existing laws and the procedures of obtaining free legal aid

It would help reduce the crime rate and also the villagers on accessing compensation for the loss caused to them. Therefore, he said, legal literacy camps are being conducted in villages. He advocated that farmers should opt for out-of-court settlements instead of approaching courts for everything.

Those who have filed cases acting on the spur of the moment can later settle their disputes through Lok Adalats, he said adding that free legal aid would be provided to the poor to render immediate justice to them. Assistant Government pleader Ali, senior advocate Anisetty Reddy, Sub-Inspector Subhakar and others took part in the legal literacy programme.
