Tirupati: The mercury level, which touched 44.2 degree Celsius on Sunday, the highest temperature so far this year left the people of the pilgrim city high and dry. The daytime temperature, which was hovering around 41 degrees Celsius before April 20, crossed 42 degrees on April 21 and further up to 43.4 on April 22 and 23.

With the temperature level likely to remain high above 44 degree Celsius, the district administration warned the people not to venture out after 11 am and confine indoors till 4 pm to avoid sunstroke. If anyone has to move out for unavoidable reasons, the officials wanted them to wear the hat and hold an umbrella and other protective measures to save themselves from the hot sun.

Meanwhile, the main commercial areas and all the streets in the town wore a deserted look after 12 pm on Sunday with the scorching heat forcing the people to remain indoors. However, the innumerable water kiosks (Chalivendralu) set up by various social organisations, political parties, individuals and even government departments all over the city for a supply of safe drinking water providing some relief to the people in the summer.
