Anantapur: The district administration will take steps to create livelihoods for 1 lakh women in the district, according to District Collector Kona Sasidhar. Participating in a one day workshop on livelihoods conducted by Self Help Groups Alliance here on Tuesday, Sasidhar said that in the 2016-17 year, one lakh poor women will be identified from among the self-help groups and livelihoods will be created for them to empower them on the economic front and boost their earning capacities.

He said that DRDA would identify 70,000 women and MEPMA 30,000 women. While 50 percent of the livelihoods would relate to Agriculture sector another 50 per cent will be from non-agriculture sectors. Income-generating livelihoods will be identified for the underprivileged women and their living standards would get a face-lift, he assured.

He asked the women to visit the super bazaars and study the market dynamics as well as the products on demand and collect relevant information of the source of products on demand and also on their annual turnover so that women too can think of running SHG super bazaars. The Collector promised to impart training to identified women and asked officials concerned to draw an action plan on how to go about the job of creating new livelihoods to the women.
