The M G Road near  Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium (IGMC) turned into a place of activity as citizens enthusiastically took part in the first ever ‘Happy Sunday’ programme, initiated by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation and DEEP Trust.

The M G Road near Indira Gandhi Municipal Stadium (IGMC) turned into a place of activity as citizens enthusiastically took part in the first ever ‘Happy Sunday’ programme, initiated by the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation and DEEP Trust. A series of entertainment events were held to encourage young and old to meet up and have fun.

Inaugurated by the Police Commissioner D Gautam Sawang and VMC Commissioner G Veerapandiyan, the Happy Sunday event saw many students and youngsters perform ring dance, skating, juggling, cycling, mini cycling and other such activities as a part of the initiative to unite citizens in hungama, once in a month. Onlookers thoroughly enjoyed the programmes that included dance and games.

Speaking on the occasion, Veerapandiyan said that the initiative is made to bring city people together and provide an opportunity to participate in fun activities to encourage them. These public events will not only provide an offbeat entertainment to people but will also help them contribute to the society in several ways.

Happy Streets have been developed at various localities like Gurunanak Colony, B R T S Road, K T Road, Pantakalava Raoa and Crambe Road where the activities will be taken out on the first Sunday of every month. Students of various educational institutions, children from orphanages took part in the event which also marked presence of DCP L K V Ranga Rao, ADCP, Nagaraju, DEEP Trust representatives Dr Rajesh, Dr V Madhu , VMC regional fire officer SVS Chowdary among others.
