Vijayawada: APCC president N Raghuveera Reddy demanded that the government prevent irregularities in the implementation of MNREGS scheme and provide employment to the daily wage workers in the drought-hit mandals of the State.

  • PCC chief Raghuveera Reddy demands measures to prevent irregularities in implementation of MNREGS
  • Alleges that machinery is being used in execution of MNREGS works
  • Flays TDP govt for sacking 6,000 field assistants

Raghuveera alleged that the government is trying to weaken the administrative system by sacking field assistants and giving powers to Janmabhoomi committees to supervise the works.

The PCC president addressed a seminar conducted by Andhra Pradesh Vyvasaya Karmika Sangham at the Press Club here on Tuesday.

The seminar was organised to discuss the irregularities in implementation of MNREGS and problems being faced by labourers. He said machinery was being used extensively during nights in execution of works under the MNREGS scheme and villagers were being deprived of work.

He said the Central government clearly says that machinery should not be used in implementation of NREGS works but the State government is violating the basic norms.

Raghuveera said the local panchayats or grama sabhas usually decide the works needed in the villages but under the TDP rule the party leaders decide what to do and what not to do and it is absolute mockery of democracy.

He said nearly 20 lakh people in Andhra Pradesh migrated to other places in search of livelihood and six lakh people alone migrated from backward Anantapur district due to lack of work.

He said the TDP government sacked 6,000 field assistants which he said is not good for democracy. AP Vyavasaya Karmika Sangham state general secretary B Venkateswarlu alleged that the TDP government is not paying wages to the NREGS workers properly.

He said the Central government decided to pay Rs 194 per day, but it is not happening in Andhra Pradesh.
