On assuming office as the 22nd Chief of the Naval Staff on 17 April 2014, Admiral Dhowan emphasised on making Indian Navy strong, combat-worthy and focused on its mandated role by optimising the employment of the newly-acquired capabilities while promoting safety consciousness. 

Visakhapatnam: Chief of Naval Staff Admiral R K Dhowan accompanied by Minu Dhowan, president of Navy Wives’ Welfare Association, who arrived here on a farewell visit to the Command, embarked on the Eastern Fleet At Sea on Sunday.

Vice Admiral H C S Bisht, flag officer commanding-in-chief, Eastern Naval Command and Rear Admiral S V Bhokare, flag officer commanding, Eastern Fleet accompanied the Navy Chief during exercises at sea.

Later, Admiral Dhowan interacted with officers, sailors and defence civilians of the Command. Admiral Dhowan had earlier helmed the Eastern Fleet as flag officer Commanding Eastern Fleet from March 2007 to January 2008 and was subsequently the Chief of Staff ENC from January to December 2008.

Coastal security initiatives, capability augmentation and engagement with friendly navies were his key result areas. The First Lady Minu Dhowan, as part of her farewell visit to the Command, interacted with the ladies of the Command at a Milan organised by the Navy Wives’ Welfare Association of the Eastern Region.
