As a part of fulfilling the budget promise of providing Wi-Fi facility and expansion of passenger amenities at all major railway stations in the country as well as implementation of Prime Minister’s Digital India programme, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu launched the high-speed Wi-Fi facility at the Vizag railway station through a remote video link from New Delhi on Friday.

Visakhapatnam: As a part of fulfilling the budget promise of providing Wi-Fi facility and expansion of passenger amenities at all major railway stations in the country as well as implementation of Prime Minister’s Digital India programme, Railway Minister Suresh Prabhakar Prabhu launched the high-speed Wi-Fi facility at the Vizag railway station through a remote video link from New Delhi on Friday.

Designed to offer passengers the best internet experience, Wi-Fi will be available to any user who has a smartphone or a laptop. Under the Digital India initiative, the Railways is committed to providing better internet facilities to passengers at 100 busiest stations by this year-end. Railtel, a public sector undertaking of the Railways in collaboration with Google is providing free Wi-Fi service at all stations.

Beginning with the first launch at Mumbai Central earlier this year, free Wi-Fi services were launched in Pune, Bhubaneshwar, Bhopal, Ranchi, Raipur, Vijayawada, Kacheguda (Hyderabad), Ernakulam Junction (Kochi) and Visakhapatnam. MP K Hari Babu, MLAs P G V R Naidu, and P Vishnu Kumar Raju were present on the occasion.

Anti-Terrorism Day observed
The Waltair division of the East Coast Railway observed Anti-Terrorism Day on Friday to commemorate the death anniversary of former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi to bring awareness among all sections of people about the danger of terrorism and violence and its impact on the society. DRM Chandralekha Mukherjee administered the pledge to all officers and staff.
