District Collector Ch Vijay Mohan expresses displeasure over the delay in construction of soak pits in the city. He said only 137 soak pits were digged as against the target of 25,000

Kurnool: District Collector Ch Vijay Mohan directed the officials to give importance for the conservation of water resources in the district. The Collector, held a meeting, after ‘Dial your Collector’ programme, with the district officials here on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, the Collector said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu has directed the District Collectors through video conference to achieve the targets of constructing farm ponds under Neeru-Pragathi and Neeru-Chettu programmes.

He informed officials concerned to strive for the completion of farm ponds, low-level recharge structures, soak pits, de-silting of ponds, and construction of check dams on lakes.

Around 151 tmcft of rainwater from the total of 403 tmcft is being wasted every year in the district, he added. The Collector lamented that they could store only 20 tmcft of water despite constructing 25,000 bore recharge structures, 50,000 farm ponds, 2 lakh soak pits, desilting of 2,000 ponds and constructing 1,000 check dams on lakes.

He gave instructions to official to be ready with required information for the Chief Minister’s video conference which will be held on May 25th and 26th. Vijay Mohan appreciated the officials for extending their support in getting 9th position to the district. He said district stood at 13th position when he took charge as Collector. It is not an easy task to achieve 9th position even in the drought conditions, he said.

The Collector also urged the officials to strive for achieving the 4th position as the district is having all resources.

To develop the district on all fronts, he sought the reports from the NREGS, DRDA, Panchyat Raj, Revenue, Housing, Education, Credit Plan, and Civil Supplies Department besides another 15 departments. He ordered the Irrigation SE to submit a report about pending project works pertaining to SRBC, HNSS and GNSS projects.

Expressing his displeasure over the delay in construction of soak pits in the city, he said only 137 soak pits were digged as against the target of 25,000. He ordered the officials to speed up the construction works to achieve the targets. Joint Collector Hari Kiran, Joint Collector-2 Rama Swamy, DRO Gangadhar Goud, JD Animal Husbandry, JD Agriculture and CPO were present.
