Vijayawada: Installation of surveillance cameras in the shops and shopping complexes will increase safety and security of the shops as well as customers particularly the women customers, said Commissioner of Police Gautam Sawang here on Saturday.
The city police chief inaugurated CC cameras surveillance system installed by Cloth Merchants Association, Vastralata, one of the biggest textile markets in the State, to keep vigil on the shops, Vastralata shopping complex as well as four main roads connected to the complex.
The Cloth Merchants Association set up a control room, installed three monitors and 120 CC surveillance cameras including in the shops, corridors, vehicle parking places and four main roads.
Gautam Sawang addressing on the occasion said installation of surveillance CC cameras would help customers feel safe and secure, particularly the woman customers. He said such efforts would help not only police department but society as well. He said the CC cameras would keep criminals at bay from the shopping complexes.
He underlined the need for increasing surveillance in the city as the trading activity and population of Vijayawada would increase because of the construction of new capital Amaravati. “I am excited to see the construction of new capital Amaravati and Vijayawada city is witnessing many developmental works for the past few months,” he added.
The surveillance system was installed at a cost of Rs 14 lakh by the textile traders. Surveillance can be made on Sivalayam Street, BRP Road up to State Bank of India, Market junction. Two technicians were appointed to monitor the control room and keep vigil in and around the textile complex. Cloth Merchants Association president Ch Raghuram, general secretary B Narasimha rao, association leaders and police officials were present on the occasion.
