Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Vyvasaya Karmika Sangham (APVKS) State president Dadala Subbarao has said thousands of acres of assigned lands that were allocated to the poor people are encroached by landlords and upper caste rich people with the support of political leaders in Krishna district.

He demanded that the Government take steps to return the lands to the real beneficiaries. He addressed the assigned lands beneficiaries’ meeting at Makineni Basava Punnaiah Vignana Kendram (MBVK) here on Wednesday.

Several hundred assigned land beneficiaries from different parts of Krishna district attended the meeting.Speaking on the occasion, the APVKS (affiliated body of CPM) State president said that as per the Government records, the government had assigned 68,833 acres land to 63,000 beneficiaries in Krishna district but the poor people were not able to use the lands because of encroachments.

He said the landlords and upper caste rich people with the support of political leaders were enjoying these lands and earning crores of rupees every year.

He said the TDP during the polling campaign had assured that the party would help the poor in getting back their lands if voted to power but ignored the promise. He said GO 128 issued by Telugu Desam Government would cause huge loss to the assigned land real beneficiaries. He said as per the GO, the assigned lands could be taken by other people for cultivation of prawn, fish and doing poultry and dairy business.

Subbarao demanded that the Government withdraw the GO 128 immediately. He said hundreds of acres of assigned lands belonging to field co-operative societies too were encroached in many parts of the district. He alleged that many realtors, landlords had encroached the assigned lands and doing real estate business, prawn and fish cultivation in the TDP rule.

APVKS Krishna district president Kota Kalyan alleged that the upper caste people were threatening and intimidating the Dalits and taking their assigned lands forcibly. He said the laws enacted by the Government to protect the assigned lands were of no use.

The assigned lands beneficiaries had narrated their problems to the leaders at the meeting. The meeting decided to stage dharnas on June 15 at all mandal Tahsildar offices in Krishna district, demanding the Government take action to help the original assigned land beneficiaries.
