Kakinada: New and Renewable Energy Development Corporation of AP (NREDCAP), the nodal agency of the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), in association with AP Genco distributed 300 solar pump set units out of a target of 400 to cater to the agriculture needs of farmers in the district by extending 89 percent subsidy on cost of these units.

The power conservation and power generation in conventional mode also said to be playing very crucial role in this concept The authorities of agriculture department identified some areas where the water sources have been found less for agriculture needs. Besides this, the power connection to far off places, particularly in upland and agency areas was also stressed the need for the provision of water resource at the nearest place.

According to the needs of individual farmers, both 3 HP and 5 HP solar pump set units with pipeline and storage tank facility was made available to suit their needs. The beneficiaries of solar power units include nurseries of Kadiyam in the district. Out of the total cost Rs 5 lakh for both 3 HP and 5 HP pump set units, the NREDCAP extends 33 recent and the AP Genco 56 percent.

The share of beneficiary remained at 11 percent only. Besides these, the NREDCAP also supplied 93 solar pump set units for drinking water needs of four submerging Mandals-- Yetapaka, V R Puram, Chintur, and Kunavaram -- as per the directive and guidelines of ITDA East Godavari.

The NREDCAP and AP Genco authorities are hoping to complete the target of 400 units (as they have achieved 75 percent of it) by June depending on the needs of individual farmers and receipt of supplies of pump sets in the district.
