Addressing a meeting, CPM State Committee member Ch Narsinga Rao said north Andhra has been neglected for two years and none of the issues mentioned in the State Reorganisation Bill of 2014 have been solved.

There was no talk about railway zone and under north Andhra special development package only Rs 50 crore was sanctioned.

Indian Institute of Management was started at temporary campus in Andhra University, Petroleum University classes were yet to begin and the government is yet to find a suitable land for establishing Tribal University.

“Though IIM needs Rs 800 crore, only Rs 30 crore has been sanctioned in the budget,” Narsinga Rao said. He said meagre amount of money was released for Vizianagaram and Visakhapatnam under special development package and the funds were being used for repair of government offices.

Narsinga Rao said the main reason for backwardness of north Andhra has been inadequate supply of water for agriculture. The TDP government has sanctioned only Rs 137 crore for north Andhra irrigation projects while the previous Congress government had allocated Rs 249 crore during 2013-2014 financial year.

The Chief Minister made repeated claims of faster development of backward regions, but only Rs 107 crore works were grounded out of Rs 137 crore allocated in the budget.

Rao said during the last two years several ferro alloys and sugar factories in cooperative sector were closed rendering thousands of people jobless.

According to CITU survey, over 50,000 people lost their jobs in north coastal Andhra during these two years. On the other hand, the government has been giving permission to establish hazardous industries which were causing pollution.

The party made several demands which include railway zone, Special Sategory status, brining eight lakh acres under irrigation, reopening of sick industries and development of IT for providing jobs to the local people.
