Vijayawada: Furious over the negligence of government in fulfilling the elements mentioned in the AP State Brahmin Welfare Corporation, the All India Brahmin Federation has decided to launch an indefinite hunger strike in the city.

The protest will begin from June 19.

Chief advisor of the federation Kota Shankara Sarma, speaking about the protest, said that the government had failed to revert despite many recommendations through the Corporation Chairman I Y R Krishna Rao and Managing Director Changavalli Venkat.

The Welfare Corporation was extending fee reimbursement to the students which we all appreciate on behalf of the community and federation.

The Government promised a loan of up to Rs 10 lakh from the Corporation towards encouraging them to set up business firms but at the same time restricted us to avail the opportunity by deciding on a ‘near to impossible’ guidelines, said Shankara Sarma.

During the All India Brahmin Federation meeting (Viprotsavam) held earlier, members of the committee had resolved to propose that government recognise the caste certificate given by registered Brahmin organisations rather than the Revenue Officer.

The loan of Rs 10 lakh had to be sanctioned without interference of the AP Brahmin Welfare Corporation and society banks. Also, since the revenue officers were not issuing income certificate to the pink card holders, if the applicant submits a notary affidavit, it had to be considered.

There had been no response from the government in this regard, therefore depriving Brahmins to access their opportunities.

In order to bring government’s attention to these issues, the Brahmin registered organisation had resorted to stage an indefinite hunger strike, Shankara Sarma added.
