Visakhapatnam: Principal secretary of Medical and Health Poonam Malakondaiah visited Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) here on Friday and reviewed the functioning of VIMS with Director Dr P V Sudhakar, consultants and other authorities.

Dr Sudhakar said that presently they are providing out-patient service only and proposed to offer various medical tests from July 1 after establishing laboratories. Responding to the director, Poonam Malakondaiah said that all required funds would be released for the development of VIMS.

She directed the director to increase the bed-strength by 50 every month in a phased manner and start providing medical service after admitting in-patients. With regard to the medical lab services, she asked to call for tenders under the Public-Private-Participation mode immediately and assured help for the development of VIMS.

Earlier, accompanied by Collector N Yuvaraj, the principal secretary visited Nadupuru village in Peda Gantyada mandal where it was proposed to set up Medical Equipment Park in 280 acres.

She said that a detailed report would be sent to the government on the project.Commissioner of Health Samuel Anand, Director of Medical Education Dr Subba Rao, Andhra Pradesh Vaidya Vidya Parishad Director Dr Somaraj, chief engineer Ravinder, consultant Jithendra Sarma and others were present.
