Visakhapatnam: Members of Visakhapatnam Bar Association condemning the high handedness of Nandyal police, who handcuffed an advocate following a complaint by the RDO, decided to boycott the courts here on Wednesday in protest.

At a general body meeting of the Bar Association here on Tuesday, president N V Suman said that it was decided to submit a representation to Commissioner of Police T Yoganand in this regard.

He further stated that Kurnool Bar Association members were boycotting the courts for the past one week while Srikakulam and Guntur Bar Association members boycotted courts on Monday protesting against police excesses on advocates.

The Nandyal police arrested and handcuffed the advocate when he approached the RDO to discuss an issue pertaining to his client, which should be condemned by all, he added. Senior Bar members Kuppili Muralidhar, Bandaru Ramakrishna and K Narasimha Murty alleged that handcuffing a person is a clear violation of law as per the guidelines laid down by the Apex Court in D K Basu Vs Union of India case. AP Bar Council Members B V R Murty and S Krishna Mohan were also present.
