Visakhapatnam: Zilla Praja Parishad Chairperson Lalam Bhavani asked the officials to keep seeds and fertilisers ready for kharif season.

Presiding over the Zilla Praja Parishad annual general body meeting here on Saturday, Lalam Bhavani said that the State government has introduced various welfare schemes for the uplift of poorer sections and it is the responsibility of the officials to implement the same in toto.

clean and to spray bleaching powder on either side of the roads to contain mosquito menace. She asked the medical officials to keep all necessary drugs in all PHCs to attend emergency cases.

Collector N Yuvaraj informed that the Central government has introduced a new crop insurance scheme Prime Minister Fasal Bima Yojana and in case of damage of the crops due to natural calamities, the farmers would be compensated. He said that the new insurance scheme must be implemented from this kharif season.

When MLC Dr M V V S Murthi sought extension of time limit for paddy crop insurance scheme up to August-end, the Collector replied that the suggestion would be submitted to the government for taking necessary action.

The Collector further stated that efforts are on to begin the works sanctioned by NABARD and 14th Finance Commission under Neeru-Chettu programme in some panchayats. Under Neeru-Chettu programme, it was planned to plant one crore saplings in the district and necessary funds will be given to protect the planted saplings.

Stating that there are many villages without borewells for drinking water, he said that scientists will be sent to such villages for testing the soil if the villagers or farmers come forward seeking borewells. He also asked the officials to sensitise the villagers to have individual toilets for which necessary funds are available.

Joint Director of Agriculture Satyanarayana informed that necessary quantity of seeds and fertilizers were kept ready and the farmers were given training on the latest agriculture methods. When Chodavaram MLA K S N S Raju pointed out that there were

no infrastructure at the PHC which was set up at Kottapet in Ravikamatam mandal, including ambulance and medical staff even after six months, DM&HO Dr J Sarojini assured that necessary steps will be taken.

ZPTC member Cheedikada Satyavathi demanded for the appointment of a pharmacist in the PHC immediately. Anakapalli MP Muttamsetti Srinivasa Rao, MLC Gade Srinivasulu Naidu, MLAs Bandaru Satyanarayana Murty, Kidari Sarveswara Rao, Budi Mutyalanaidu, Vangalapudi Anitha, ZP CEO Jayaprakash Narayana, ZPTC and MPTC members attended.
