​Tirupati: The State has set a record by laying CC roads in the villages to a total length of 3,287 km long in 2015-16, according to rural development special chief secretary Dinesh Kumar.

Dinesh Kumar on Thursday held a meeting with the project directors of DWMA (District Water Management Agency) and DRDA (District Rural Development Agency) of four Rayalaseema districts and Nellore here to review the performance of the two departments district-wise.

Dinesh said the CC roads were laid in the villages as part of rural development programme under `Chandranna Bata' scheme with an outlay of Rs 1,015 crore, while in the current financial year CC roads to a total length of 5,000 km was proposed under MGNREGS(Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme) so as to cover almost all the panchayats in the State.

This apart, the government has set a target of constructing 6.5 lakh farm ponds under Panta Sanjeevini to improve irrigation and construction of 15.04 Panchayat buildings and 5 lakh individual toilets in villages in the current financial year in the State, he said and added that there is no dearth of funds for the works as they were linked with Centrally-funded NREGS. But, the onus of achieving the target as well as maintaining quality of works were in the hands of district project directors, he averred.

The other works initiated under rural development include digging of 2.5 lakh soak pits to boost rain water harvesting and construction of 7,500 Anganwadi Bhavans which has to be completed by December this year.

He claimed that the AP is doing well with the implementation of NREGS under which 59.93 landless poor belonging to 35.72 lakh families in 13,099 villages were enrolled for providing employment under the scheme.

Rural development commissioner Ramanjaneyulu said that the Centre had agreed to provide funds to the tune of Rs 427 crore under 14th Finance Commission this year to Panchayat Raj department to take up various rural development works. District Collector Sidharth Jain and others were present.
