Visakhapatnam: Indira Gandhi Zoological Park in association with Visakha zoo lovers and Bapuji Rural Enlightenment and Development Society conducted wild animal adoption programme on the zoo premises here on Friday.

Amount donated by the volunteers was handed over to the zoo curator B Vijay Kumar. The voulunteers came forward to adopt 10 animals in the zoo park.

School children from Minerva Schools, Rushikonda attended the programme, along with the teachers of the school, veterinary doctor V Srinivas, assistant curator SS Ali Mashaddy, BREDS representatives KK Pani, Pragnya Patak, Visakha zoo lovers’ representatives Rapaka Manohar, V V Sirisha, students from Gannavaram Veterinary university were present at the event.

The curator told the students that the adoption of wild animals in zoo parks will provide the opportunity to know more about those animals and the benefits of protecting bio-diversity.

This would help children focus on environmental protection. It is the duty to involve people, who can afford these wild animal adoptions and participate in the process of wildlife conservation, and strive for protection of biodiversity.Indira Gandhi Zoological Park located in the Eastern Ghats mobile belt in the city has a unique feature of conserving endemic and exotic wildlife.
