Visakhapatnam: Former Minister Dadi Veerabhadra Rao demanded the Centre to appoint separate Governor and High Court Chief Justice for Andhra Pradesh to set up High Court Benches in Rayalaseema region and at Vijayawada and Visakhapatnam cities immediately till the AP gets High Court on permanent basis as per the Act.

Talking to reporters in Anakapalli on Sunday, Veerabhadra Rao said as the Governor was not interfering in implementing the contents of AP Re-organization Act despite having powers, the State Government should approach the High Court and the Apex Court. The Governor had failed to address the burning issues of the two Telugu States and simply acting as an endowments minister, Dadi alleged.

A resolution was also passed earlier in the AP State Legislative Council for setting up of HC Benches and nobody took the initiative later, he lamented.

Veerabhadra Rao further said it was unfortunate that the Centre was not even taking the initiative of implementing the Constitutional provision that each State must have a High Court. The Chief Ministers of AP and Telangana must take a decision over the issue.

The Union Law Minister was not making an announcement with regard to the separate HC for AP. With the recent clashes and agitations at the High Court, most of the litigants belonging to AP were of the opinion that they might not get justice, he said. Both the Chief Ministers and the Centre must take the initiative for establishing a separate HC and appointing a separate Governor for AP, he added.
