​Srikakulam: CITU demanded cancellation of permission for the proposed nuclear power plant at Kovvada in Ranastalam mandal in the district. They took out a motorcycle rally in all NPP affected villages on Thursday.

Speaking on the occasion, CITU district general secretary Duppala Govinda Rao found fault with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu for his dual talk on the NPP as the Chief Minister now and as the Leader of Opposition in 2010.

The rally started at Kosta village junction and passed through Patharlapalli, Chinnakovvada, Peddakovvada, Gudem, Ramachandrapuram, Surapeta, Kotapalem and Allivalasa villages in Ranastalam mandal.

The CITU representatives explained ill effects of NPP and why it was shifted from Gujarat to Srikakulam. They explained alternative power generation methods to public and appealed to them to oppose proposed NPP. On the other hand, the CPM leaders and cadres distributed pamphlets on ill effects of NPP across the district on Thursday.

CPM State executive council member Ch Tejeswara Rao, district secretary B Krishnamurthy said that Prakash Karat will interact with the people of all affected villages and participate in a public meeting at Kosta Junction on Saturday and will conduct a discussion on NPP here in the evening on the same day.
