Stage set for demolition of encroachments in Nuzvid

Vijayawada: The district administration is gearing up to demolish over 200 unauthorised structures built in the Moghal tank in the heart of Nuzvid town. The officials served notices to residents during the last three days and asking the inmates to vacate the homes and shops immediately.

Moghal tank, located on the Nuzvid-Hanuman junction road is very important tank spread over 42 acres. However, the encroachers have constructed more than 200 structures and been using for residential as well as commercial purposes.

Some encroachers are getting rents worth thousands of rupees every month from the tenants. The electricity department arranged power supply and Nuzvid municipality gave water connections to the encroachers.

The district administration is now decided to remove the encroachments immediately and develop the tank for the recreation of local residents. The CRDA is planning to construct a walking track and install boating in the 42 acres land. Survey conducted by revenue department has revealed that the park is spread over in 38 acres.

Encroachments were made along the Nuzvid-Hanuman Junction road in the tank. Dirty water is stagnated in around 30 acres land. Due to lack of under ground drainage system in the town, the denizens are releasing the drain water into the tank for many decades. This has polluted the tank, which is filled with mud and dirty waters.

Now, the CRDA is determined to give facelift to the tank and develop the greenery and provide recreation facilities. The revenue officials on Sunday morning held discussions with the local residents and made it clear that all encroachment must be removed at any cost.

Meanwhile, the panic stricken families are asking the Government to provide alternative site or houses in the colonies built for the poor. The Opposition YSRCP leaders are visiting the colony and expressing their solidarity to the panic stricken families. The YSRCP leaders are asking the Government to provide alternative site or house to the poor. More than 50 JCBs and poclainers are kept ready near the colony to start the demolition drive. The residents are panicked over the deployment of heavy machinery and asking the officials to give two months time to vacate their homes.

Hundreds of police are deployed nearby the area for the last three days to maintain law and order as the angry residents may resort to agitation protesting against the demolition drive.
