The works were being undertaken in Amaravati, Gorantla, AIIMS premises, Krishna Canal Junction and Tadepalli. Each Pushkar Nagar is expected to accommodate one lakh pilgrims. 

Guntur: The district administration has taken up works for setting up 19 Pushkar Nagars and 79 ghats for the convenience of pilgrims visiting the district for Krishna Pushkaralu. The officials are expecting 8 to 10 lakh pilgrims to take a holy dip in River Krishna.

The works were being undertaken in Amaravati, Gorantla, AIIMS premises, Krishna Canal Junction and Tadepalli. Each Pushkar Nagar is expected to accommodate one lakh pilgrims.

Huge sheds were being constructed for the convenience of pilgrims in Pushkar Nagars. Indicator boards were being set up from RTC bus stand road till Pushkar Nagars.

The officials are expecting huge pilgrim rush at Amaravati, Tallayapalem, Penumudi and Seethangar ghats. Sheds were being set up at ghats for performing pinda pradhanam. At least 600 purohits will be allowed at each ghat for chanting mantras for pinda pradhanam. A bus stand was being set up in Pushkar Nagar for the convenience of pilgrims.

It may be mentioned here that a Deputy Collector will be appointed as in-charge for Pushkar Nagars. He will coordinate with the officials of 10 departments and provide necessary facilities to the pilgrims. A health camp with six beds will be set up in Pushkar Nagar.

The AP Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (APSPDCL) will arrange generators. Panchayat Raj department will set up temporary toilets and provide drinking water to the pilgrims. A control room will be opened in Pushkar Nagar.

The buses will be arranged to take pilgrims to pushkar ghats. The police department will provide 24x7 security at Pushkar Nagars and ghats.

Rice Millers’ Associations, Doll Mills Association and NGOs will provide food free of cost to the pilgrims. The officials have assessed that at least 3,000 sanitation workers are required to maintain sanitation in Pushkar Nagars and ghats. The Endowments department with the coordination of TTD will conduct cultural programmes. The Fisheries department will engage swimmers to rescue people in danger.

Collector Kantilal Dande said that he had instructed officials to complete the works by July-end. He said Pushkar Nagars were being set up to provide accommodation to pilgrims. He said 80 per cent of ghat construction works have been completed so far.

Guntur Rural SP Narayan Naik said that they would install CC cameras at pushkar ghats. He said that they have identified places to provide space for parking vehicles. He said that police will keep an eye on the movements of the suspects and regulate traffic near the ghats.
