CBI arrests Employees State Insurance Corporation inspector
The CBI sleuths caught the inspector red-handed while accepting the bribe. The accused is identified as M K Khadeeruddin. The accused had demanded the bribe from the complainant for not registering a case against the latter under the ESIC Act.
Visakhapatnam: The local CBI officials arrested an inspector of the Employees State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), Vijayawada, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 25,000 from a complainant.
The CBI sleuths caught the inspector red-handed while accepting the bribe. The accused is identified as M K Khadeeruddin. The accused had demanded the bribe from the complainant for not registering a case against the latter under the ESIC Act.
According to the prosecution, the complainant started a garment manufacturing unit under the Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) with four or five workers and was also imparting training to unemployed women in garment manufacturing in association with the Association of Lady Entrepreneurs of Andhra Pradesh (ALEAP).
On June 23, the accused inspector visited the unit and issued a notice to the complainant for not complying with the provisions of ESIC Act.
Thereafter, the complainant met him on July 14, and produced all the relevant documents.However, the inspector demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000, failing which he threatened to register a case under ESIC Act. Following negotiations, the officer settled for Rs 25,000 as the complainant had expressed his inability to pay such huge amount.
Based on a complaint filed, the CBI-Visakhapatnam registered a case and laid a trap. The tainted ESIC inspector was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting the bribe on Wednesday.
The accused was arrested and would be produced before the Principal Special Judge Court for CBI cases, Visakhapatnam, said CBI SP R Gopala Krishna Rao, in a press release issued here on Thursday.
