New Delhi: AP's hopes of Special Category Status have been dashed once again. The State could have moved a step closer to this goal if only the Rajya Sabha were to take up the Private Member's Bill of Congress MP KVP Ramachandra Rao seeking amendments to the AP Reorganisation Act 2014.

It was not to be so as the BJP was firm in its opposition to the same from the beginning even setting aside the pleas of the TDP, its ally at both the Centre and the State, to the contrary.

If, all these two years it took shelter behind technicalities in denying the status to AP, Aam Admi Party MP's Bhagwant Singh Mann's foolish escapade of filming the security layers of Parliament on Thursday, that came to its rescue.

The Treasury benches not only disrupted the Lok Sabha through the morning but also the Rajya Sabha deliberately seeking the arrest of Mann.

Ruling party MPs did not allow the Private Member's Bill to come up during its scheduled time by creating a ruckus and rushing to the podium despite the fervent appeals of Deputy Chairman P J Kurien against the same.

Kurien kept pleading as soon as the House assembled at 2.30 pm with the members of the Treasury benches as it was improper on their part to do so and "it is usually the Opposition that does it". But the advice fell on deaf years. The BJP members were in no mood to respect the conventions of the House or the Rights of members to their own Private Member’s Bills.

Raising slogans seeking Mann's arrest ignoring the fact that the Lok Sabha was already seized of the matter and a case had been booked against the errant MP at the Parliament Street Police Station and brushing aside the suggestions from the Opposition that the LS Speaker was dealing with the issue, they insisted on passing a resolution to effect the arrest, to the bewilderment of the Opposition.
