The Congress workers led by District Youth Congress president Peddireddy Pradeep and City Congress president Rajanala Ram Mohan Rao, earlier, took out a rally from Congress office in Agraharam and reached GNT Road near Vasantha Mahal Centre. Later, they staged road blockade and burnt the effigy of the BJP and the TDP, demanding that the Centre grant Special Status to the State. 

Eluru: Congress leaders staged road blockade on Grand National Trunk Road here on Saturday, in protest against the postponement of a private member bill seeking Special Status to the State.

The Congress workers led by District Youth Congress president Peddireddy Pradeep and City Congress president Rajanala Ram Mohan Rao, earlier, took out a rally from Congress office in Agraharam and reached GNT Road near Vasantha Mahal Centre. Later, they staged road blockade and burnt the effigy of the BJP and the TDP, demanding that the Centre grant Special Status to the State.

The Congress leaders alleged that the BJP promised Special Status to the State for 10 years during the 2014 elections. However, the BJP had failed to grant Special Status to the State even after completing two years in office.

They alleged that the BJP-TDP combine had willfully blocked the debate on private member bill introduced by Congress MP K V P Ramachandra Rao in Rajya Sabha on Friday.

The Congress leaders demanded that the BJP-led NDA government discuss the bill and grant Special Status to the State immediately. Youth Congress leaders Ankem Seetaram, Peddireddi Subbarao, Geddam Prashanth, Amirisetti Bhanu and others were present
