Visakhapatnam: Commissioner of Police T Yoganand called upon the people to help make Vizag as an open defecation-free city and extend cooperation to the GVMC and voluntary organisations in this regard.

Flagging off Swachh Bharat rally taken out by the Chaitanya Sravanthi, an NGO, at Relliveedhi on Saturday to educate people to avoid open defecation, Yoganand felt that social menaces like consumption of liquor, gambling and open defecation should be contained.

He called upon the women to bring behavioural change in men’s attitude to help contain such evils. Stating that all should build individual toilets with the government help, the Commissioner of Police warned that the police would be forced to nab those indulging in open defecation.

Founder of Chaitanya Sravanthi Sireen Rehaman said that they were educating the public on ODF for the past two years by organising various programmes. Swachh Bharat Mission convener Prof V Balamohan Das, brand ambassadors Prof G S N Raju, Dr Kutikuppala Surya Rao, P L K Murty, G J Valsaraj, Uday Sriram, V V Ramana Murty, D S Anand and Chaitanya Sravanthi vice-president J Vijaysankar and members were present.
