Health and Medical Education Minister Kamineni Srinivas said the State government alone could not provide all medical services to the entire population as it had its own limitations.
Vijayawada: Health and Medical Education Minister Kamineni Srinivas said the State government alone could not provide all medical services to the entire population as it had its own limitations.
He said the focus of the government was limited to preventive, primary and secondary services only and there was a pressing need for establishing private hospitals in the State to ensure specialty services to the people.
Speaking at the inauguration of a new branch of a private hospital here on Sunday, he said it was not possible for the government to spend Rs 20 lakh to Rs 30 lakh for each surgery and the budgetary allocations to the Medical and Health department were also very poor.
- Says government alone cannot provide all medical services to the people.
- A draft plan being prepared to avail the of services of private doctors under NTR Vaidya Seva scheme.
“Only Rs 1,200 per head is allocated in the budget. This includes the salaries of staff and other expenditure as well. We cannot provide medical facilities to many people within these limitations,” said the Minister.
He further said that the number of specialist doctors in government hospitals was less as the government cannot pay them salaries of Rs 4 lakh to Rs 5 lakh a month.
Admitting that the medical services being provided by the government were inadequate, Srinivas said that in order to overcome this hurdle, services of private doctors would be used under NTR Vaidya Seva scheme.
He said that a draft plan was being prepared in this regard.
The Minister asked the people not to see government and private hospitals as separate entities and said the government would also take the help of private hospitals.
Chairman and managing director of the Dr Akhil Dadi said the hospital group was ranked second in south India in conducting knee replacement surgeries.
He added that all super specialty services including cardiology, orthopaedics, general surgery and laparoscopic surgery were available at the hospital.
