Muniratnam is the only social activist being nominated from voluntary organisations which were implementing multifarious Integrated Programme for Older Persons (IPOP) from South India along with 25 prominent social activists to the national government body for the welfare of the aged.

Tirupati: City-based NGO Rashtriya Seva Samithi (RASS) general secretary G Muniratnam was nominated by the Union Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment to the National Council for Senior Citizens (NCSC), for a period of three years.

Muniratnam is the only social activist being nominated from voluntary organisations which were implementing multifarious Integrated Programme for Older Persons (IPOP) from South India along with 25 prominent social activists to the national government body for the welfare of the aged.

As many as 25 prominent social activists heading senior citizens forums and pensioners’ associations were nominated to national-level committee of NCSC which advise the Central government on the facilities,protection and legal rights of senior citizens.

The RASS general secretary was also nominated to the screening committee of the Ministry which sanctions grant–in-aid for the voluntary organisations for the aged.

The RASS has been running 12 old-aged homes and day care centres in Chittoor and Anantapur districts in the State and in Tiruttani and Thiruvallur in Tamil Nadu for 30 years by sponsoring 1,200 aged people with the Help Age India. It also formed Self-Help Groups to provide credit to senior citizens to establish income generating activities to lead their life with dignity.
