Rajamahendravaram: All necessary steps are being taken to transform Rajamahendravaram as the beautiful city and tourism hub, said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, here on Thursday. He said that land for Rajamendravaram airport has been acquired at a cost of Rs 250 crore and would be developed in a big way.

Naidu also laid foundation stone for 4,200 flats which are going to be constructed under Pradhan Manthri Awas Yojana Scheme with a cost of Rs 231 crore. He informed that the State government has fixed a target to build five lakh houses in next three years for the homeless.

Later, Naidu laid foundation stone for major drain from Innispeta to sewerage treatment plant and also unveiled plaque for 100 feet road to be constructed with a cost of Rs 4.90 crore from Ava Channel to National Highway-16.

Speaking on the occasion, Naidu reiterated that Polavaram project would be completed by 2018 as it has been announced as national project and also assured a sports stadium and convention centre in the city.

Stressing the need for growth of service sector around the city, he expressed hope that Rajamahendravaram will become economic hub in near future.Recalling that the East Godavari always stood by the Telugu Desam Party, he did see great potential for tourism development in the areas like Rajamahendravaram, Kakinada, Papikondalu and Konaseema.

Deputy Chief Minister N Chinarajappa, Minister for Finance Yanamala Ramakrishnudu, Minister for Housing Kimidi Mrinalini, MP M Muralimohan, Mayor Pantam Rajani Sesha Sai, MLAs Gorantla Butchaiah Choudary and Dr Akula Satyannarayana were present on the occasion.

Later, the Chief Minister addressed party workers meeting and said that Telugu Desam party can only take up welfare measures in this State since other parties have criminals and history of ditching the people of the State.

He mentioned that the people have reposed faith on the TDP as the one party leader is having criminal background and other party has ditched people of the State in the name of bifurcation.

Though the government is going through financial crisis, he reminded that the government has never backed out from implementing welfare measures in the State including hiking pension amount for old aged people, widows and physically challenged.

He reiterated that his government will not spare anyone who wants to take law into their hands and condemned Sudapalem incident in which two Dalits were beaten severely by a group of eight persons.

He said that the accused were arrested within 48 hours and victims were paid Rs 1 lakh each and injured was given Rs 50,000 compensation.

The CM said that the victims will be paid under SC, ST Act also as per the law and assured that this type of incidents will not be repeated and asked TDP workers to keep a vigil on these incidents.

He invited Aryapuram cooperative bank chairman Challa Sankarrao and a few directors of the bank and leaders of other parties from different places in East Godavari into Telugu Desam Party at a function organised in Cherukuri Kalyana Mandapam.
