Vijayawada: The Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) found fault with Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu filing quash petition in the High Court, seeking stay on investigation into the Cash-for-Vote case. The APCC executive, which met here on Thursday, took strong exception to the quash petition and observed that by filing the petition the Chief Minister had accepted his crime.

Speaking to mediapersons after the executive meeting, APCC president Dr N Raghuveera Reddy said that Chandrababu Naidu had discounted the criticism on his involvement in the Cash-for-Vote case.

If he is not involved, why is he scared of ACB investigation,” the APCC president asked. He wanted the Chief Minister to face enquiry and come out clean. The APCC president accused Governor ESL Narasimhan of mediating between the governments of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana to save Naidu.

He also alleged that the Central government was trying to mediate between the two governments to help Naidu come out clean. Being the constitutional head of the State, if he refuses investigation, what message he is giving to the people,” Raghuveera questioned.

Referring to the Central government’s plans of announcing a package to the State, the APCC president said that BJP and TDP were playing with the sentiments of the people. “

Nothing but Special Category Status is acceptable to the people. Congress promised SCS for five years, while the BJP promised it for 10 years and the TDP wanted it for 15 years,” he recalled.

He took strong exception to BJP and TDP for going back on the promise and offering a special package. He said that the Congress would declare this week as red alert week to be cautious against the Central government’s package proposal.

He said that the Congress had done everything both in the Parliament and outside to secure Special Category Status in the last two-and-a-half years.

The APCC also condemned the increasing attacks on Dalits and women in the State. He said that the State stood first in corruption, sixth in crime against women and ninth in crimes against Dalits.

He said both the State and the Central governments have no commitment for the welfare and protection of the Dalits and women. He appealed to the rank and file of the Congress to fight for these issues.
