Vizianagaram: Great poet, social reformer ‘Mahakavi’ Gurajada Apparao was remembered on his 154th birth anniversary here on Tuesday.
His services to literature and society were remembered at a meeting held to mark the occasion. District Collector Vivek Yadav, in his
address, said that the services of Gurajada to the literature and society would remain with people forever. “We can say that
‘Kanyasulkam’ play is the one of the best in India. Gurajada’s writings have awaken society.

His sayings like ‘Desamante Matti Kadoyi -Desamante Manushuloyi’ would reflect his command over literature. His literary works reflect
the socio-economic conditions of those days. He seriously opposed and fought against the social evils to save the girl child. “We will
protect the interests of the family members of Gurajada Apparao who are living in Vizianagaram,” he added. Joint Collector Srikesh Balaji
said that Gurajada was not only a writer and poet, but also a social reformer.
