Anantapur: District in-charge Minister Kamineni Srinivas and Minister for IT Palle Raghunatha Reddy flagged off the 'War on mosquitoes and cleanliness drive' rally at Tower Clock junction in the city on Saturday. Hundreds of students participated in the rally from all local schools.
Students with placards and slogans on cleanliness and health marched through the main fares of the city raising slogans on health and cleanliness and drawing the attention of the general public.Addressing the media, Palle Raghunatha Reddy said seasonal fevers are landing many in hospitals though the government is taking several measures to curb the viral fevers. He advised the people to take precautionary measures by keeping their surroundings hygienic in order to curb mosquito menace. Most of the diseases, including malaria, filaria, dengue, and chikungunya, are the result of mosquitoes.
Breeding grounds for mosquitoes should be checked by one and all at homes and deter from dumping garbage in public place which turn into breeding ground for mosquitoes. People are being sensitised on doing their part to keep their streets and public places clean.
Door-to-Door awareness campaign was undertaken in cities, towns and villages to contain the fevers. Medical and health staff and municipal sanitary staff and students were pressed into service to educate the public on do's and don'ts. Throwing of plastic into public or private drains should be avoided at any cost, he said.
