Pithapuram: The Kukkuteswara Swamy (Pada Gaya) temple at Pithapuram would be developed at a cost of Rs 15 crore as per the master plan approved by the Tourism and Endowment departments, said MLA NVSN Varma ,on Sunday. The MLA was present as the Chief Guest at the swearing-in ceremony of the executive committee of the temple, where he spoke to the media. He said the temple had nationwide prominence as the tenth Shaktipeetham and as one of the ‘Thrigayas’ which is believed to be a self-manifested (Swayambhoo) temple of Dattatreya, and the birth place of Sripada Srivallabha.

Stating that the Chief Minister had sanctioned Rs 15 crore for the development of the temple, the MLA said that Rs 3 crore of the sanctioned funds had already been released. He undertook to create amenities to the devotees as part of the development activity and assured that the development activities would in no way hamper the stature and sanctity of the temple as the master plan was approved by Agamasasthra pundits.

The MLA said that he was determined to develop all the temples in the town. He said that they had been successful in getting back the lands of Sree Satram from the encroachers and said that the income generated from the lands was being utilised for providing free meals to students and for arranging free coaching for competitive examinations to the unemployed youth. He appreciated executive officer Chandaka Dorababu for the Endowments department’s success in getting back the lands of Kunthi Madhava Swamy temple from encroachers.

Earlier, Kondeti Surya Prakasa Rao, Vogeti Muralidhar, Kasthuri Apparao, Bande Raghava, Gorrela Venkata Ramana, Suravarapu Venkata Subba Rao, Palika Papa Lakshmi, Dangeti Doraiah and Kola Sreeramachandra Murthy (ex-officio member) took the oath of office as members of the executive committee of the temple. Following this, all the members unanimously elected Kondeti Surya Prakasa Rao as chairman.
