​Vijayawada/Tirupati: AgriGold customers and agents welfare association organised a rasta roko on Saturday demanding that the government allot Rs 1,000 crore as an advance payment to the customers and victims of the firm. Traffic was disrupted at the Ramavarappadu Ring Road where the agitation took place and police took the association leaders and agents into custody.

Association honorable president Muppalla Nageswara Rao, AP Mahila Samaikhya State general secretary P Durga Bhavani, AIYF State president Syed Afsar and other leaders took part in the rasta roko.
Speaking on the occasion association president Nageswara Rao alleged that company chairman, MD and their families were enjoying themselves in foreign countries while the customers and agents were suffering in India. CPI State secretary K Rama Krishna, CPM secretary P Madhu and Forward Block secretary PV Sundara Rama Raju extended support to Agri gold customers and agents association.
A similar protest was held in Tirupati at Poorna Kumbham circle, the main entry point of the pilgrim city, led by depositors and agents’ district association president Sivarami Reddy. Leaders of various political parties including CPI, CPM, Rayalaseema Porata Samithi (RPS) and Congress joined in the protest held as part of a State-wide stir against the apathy of the government in taking effective steps for the return of the deposit amount to subscribers. They deplored the State governments of AP, Telangana, TN, Kerala and Karnataka for not taking measures for the repayment of the deposit amount to thousands of depositors.
The leaders alleged that the governments seemed to be going soft on Agrigold top management officials including its chairman and directors and said the government was overlooking the woes of depositors who were duped by the company. CPI district secretary Rama Naidu, city secretary C Penachalaiah, CPM city secretary Subramanyam, RPS district convenor P Naveenkumar Reddy and Congress leader Mohan participated in the rasta roko. The leaders warned the government of intensifying the agitation if the government failed to take steps immediately, as per the High Court directions to return the deposit amounts.
