Kurnool: Deputy Chief Minister K E Krishna Murthy asserted that the government has won the faith of the farmers by extending minimum support price to onions. The Deputy Chief Minister was the chief guest at the inaugural function of Minimum Support Price Centre at the market yard here on Friday.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that the government is striving for the welfare of farmers and extended minimum support price of Rs 600 per quintal. He said that onion crop was planted in an extent of 22,844 hectares in the district and 34.26 lakh quintals of produce have been harvested. The government has come to the aid of the farmers when the farmers were in quandary on how to sell their produce without minimum support price, he stated.

He said that the government will purchase their produce if they bring directly to the market yard without falling prey to the middlemen. This scheme would be in force till February, 2017 next year. He urged the farmers to avail benefits from this scheme. Krishna Murthy said that the government has sanctioned a sum of Rs 20 crore that would be directly deposited into the farmers account by purchasing their produce with minimum support price. Zilla Parishad Chairman Mallela Raja Sekhar urged the Collector to establish the Minimum Support Price Centres at Adoni, Yemmiganoor and Nandyal market yards besides Kurnool.

TDP MP T G Venkatesh said farmers’ thanked the government for extending support to the onion farmers with minimum support price. District Collector Ch Vijay Mohan urged the farmers to avail the benefits that have been facilitated by the government. He instructed the farmers to bring the onions that have been graded and should not mix with the rotten or sprouted onions.

Vijay Mohan said the amount would be directly deposited into the farmers account within a week from the date of purchasing the produce. Later, Kurnool MLA S V Mohan Reddy, Yemmiganoor MLA Jaya Nageshwar Reddy, Market Yard Chairman Shamantaka Mani also spoke.Joint Collector C Hari Kiran, Marketing AD, Agriculture JD, Horticulture AD, farmers, commercial agents and other constituency in-charges were present.
