Hyderabad: Former Minister in the united Andhra Pradesh Satrucharla Vijayarama Raju was on Monday directed by the High Court to pay back full amount he had received from the State Assembly towards his salary and perks during his tenure as MLA of Nagar Constituency in Vizianagaram district between 1999 and 2004.

Justice P Naveen Rao of the High Court at Hyderabad passed orders on Monday directing the AP Assembly Secretary to take steps for the recovery the amount in full from Vijayarama Raju while disposing of a petition filed by Nimmaka Jayaraju.

The petitioner sought prosecution of Vijayarama Raju on the ground that he got elected by submitting a false caste certificate claiming he belonged to to Scheduled Tribe (ST) category even though he is a Kshatriya.

Appearing for the petitioner, senior counsel A Satya Prasad told the court that the High Court had earlier heard an election petition and held that Satrucharla Vijayarama Raju was not belonging to ST category and that he was actually from Kshatriya community. It also held that his very contest from Nagur, a constituency reserved for STs, was wrong.

In this background, the petitioner sought a direction from the court to prosecute Raju for claiming political benefits with a false claim and also the recovery of the pay and perks paid to him for five years. The Supreme Court too earlier confirmed the order of the High Court on the caste status of Raju, he said.
