Babu said PD Act has been imposed on five notorious red sanders smugglers and district collector has issued an order to detain them.

The five smugglers are -- Shaikh Abdul Rahiman, a resident of SIRA town in Tumkur, an accused in 27 cases, Shaikh Fayaz Sharref alias Fayaz of Katiganahalli near Bangalore and has 71 cases lodged against him, Praveen Kumar, who is accused in 22 cases. All of them belong to Karnataka.

Kanda Swamy Parthipan, a resident of Red Hills in Tamil Nadu and is accused in 28 cases and Subba Reddy from Kadapa, an accused in 22 cases under PD Act. All cases against these five smugglers are registered at various police stations, he said.

District administration has already detained four smugglers in August under the PD Act, the OSD said. This year, Andhra Pradesh police have registered as many as 75 red sanders smuggling cases and arrested 750 alleged smugglers, out of which 450 persons belong to Andhra Pradesh, while remaining from other states, he said. So far this year, police have seized 1,650 red sanders logs and 101 vehicles.
