New Delhi: A nationwide protest against the Centre's GST Bill provisions held here at Jantar Mantar on Monday saw the employees of Commercial Taxes departments opposing the move. About 3,000 employees from all over the country took part in it which included about 300 from and Telangana and Andhra Pradesh states.

Raising slogans against some of the provisions of the Bill, the employees sought withdrawal of the same as those were against the spirit of the Constitution. The provisions of the Bill would render the Commercial Tax departments of the State almost redundant. The Centre should handover the Sales Tax responsibility to the States and they should also be given a share of the Goods Tax responsibility.

Reiterating that they were not opposing the GST per se, they said collection of the CST and GST should be the responsibility of the States. If the Centre did not concede their demands in the next council meeting, the All India Commercial Taxes Officers and Employees Federation would announce its action plan against the same, its president, Suryanarayana Rao, said.
