Kurnool: Head of the Department of Urology, Dr. Seetha Ramaiah said rare surgeries have been performed through laparoscopic means to kidneys to two patients at Government General Hospital.
Giving details about the case, at a media conference accompanied by the hospital Superintendent Veera Swamy, at his chamber in general hospital on Wednesday.
Dr Seetha Ramaiah said two persons Obulesu and Sekhar, aged 27 and 23 years respectively have been admitted at Government General Hospital with complaints of non-functionality of kidneys.
In Obulesu’s case, left kidney is the affected part.
He was successfully operated through laparoscopic system.
While Sekhar was a patient who is having issues with both kidneys.
To be precise, one kidney has totally stopped functioning and the other is functioning partially.
The non-functional kidney has been operated and removed with the same system and treatment is being given to the other kidney, said Seetha Ramaiah.
Laparoscopic surgery is an easy method executed with just two or three holes and is a good alternative to open surgery.
The patient will not feel any pain and will be able to return to regular work within three to four days from the day of surgery.
Whereas the healing process in open surgery is slow and it is painful too, he stated.
This is the first instance in which a surgery has been performed to two patients at Government General Hospital.
The operations are cost-free and covered under NTR Aarogya Sree Scheme.
The same surgery if it is performed at any corporate hospitals, it would have cost nearly Rs 4 to 5 Lakhs, he revealed.
Hospital Superintendent Dr G Veera Swamy, Dr C Chalapathi, Senior Dr Sai Krishna, and CSRMO Praveen too spoke on the occasion.
Dr Aruna Latha, Dr Vishala, and Operation Staff Nagendramma have combined to carry out the surgery.
