Bhimavaram: A tense situation prevailed in three villages of Tundurru, Kamsali Bethapudi and Jonnalagaruvu of Bhimavaram Mandal, following the agitation by the villagers on Friday, demanding the immediate stoppage of Godavari Aqua Mega Food Park in Tundurru village. Heavy police deployment was witnessed in all the three villages as a precautionary measure

After the tragic incident at the Ananda Aqua Pre-Processing Unit at Nallamvarithota in Mogalturu mandal in which five workers lost their lives on Thursday after the leakage of Ammonium gas in an effluent sump, the people expressed fears over their future.

The villagers of Jonnala Garuvu and Tundurru started their march to the Aqua Mega Food Park in the morning to besiege the unit. However, the police force at the Park site prevented the agitators. Following this, a chaotic situation resulted between the villagers and police. Later the villagers squatted on the road as a protest demanding the state government to stop the construction of the aqua park and shift it to another place from the habitats.

The villagers of Kamsali Bethapudi and Tundurru led by CPM District Secretary B Balaram, Party district Secretariat member JNV Gopalan and others raised slogans against the Government and park management. They resorted to road blockade on the Tundurru-Bhimavaram-Narsapur road, resulting in traffic disruption.

However, police maintained restraint this time, completely in contrast against the earlier times. However, three check posts in three villages have been set up by the police to prevent any untoward incident.

As a precautionary measure about 900 police personnel including special police and women police were deployed in the three villages, as the villagers started the agitation.
