Vijayawada: Minister for panchayat raj and information technology N Lokesh said that the state government would construct nearly 12,000 km CC roads in all the villages by the end of 2018 and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu had been striving for the all-round development of the state, including villages. Lokesh participated in Panchayat Raj Day celebrations organised at A Plus convention hall here on Monday.

Addressing the panchayat raj department staff on the occasion, the minister said Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu was developing rural areas with the support of sub-plan, 14th Finance Commission funds, Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS) funds.

“The state government will construct underground drainage in villages which have a population of more than 5,000 to improve hygienic condition and preventing seasonal diseases like dengue, cholera,” Lokesh said.

He said that the state government would supply LED bulbs to all panchayat offices to reduce power bills and suggested that all sections of people must fix solar panels to their water motors to save power. Referring to cement prices, he said that the state government would reduce cement prices in a week and efforts were going on it.

Village development depends on the performance of village presidents and all presidents must generate revenue at their villages for development of their areas, he added. Minister for roads and buildings Ch Ayyannapatrudu said that the state government has had allocated Rs 10 lakh each to nearly 13,000 gram panchayats in the state for developing infrastructure facilities in villages, including development of burial grounds.

He further said that the government was successfully using the technology to prevent corruption in welfare schemes. “The village presidents must implement the innovative and modern ideas for developing villages,” he added. Lokesh handed over 234 merit certificates to the best village presidents and panchayat raj officials who excelled in their services for the development of villages.

Ministers C Adinarayana Reddy, K Srinivasulu, Nakka Anand Babu, Guntur and Krishna districts ZP chairpersons Jani Moon, Gadde Anuradha, Women’s Commission chairperson N Raja Kumari and others also spoke on the occasion.
