Rapist gets 10 years jail

Vijayawada: The ACB Court on Friday sentenced 10 years rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000 on a rape convict.According to a press release, the accused Bitra Anand alias Veeranjaneyulu aka Veeraiah raped a minor girl in 2014 at Kummaripalem under the jurisdiction of Bhavanipuram police station.Anand while distributing pamphlets of a political party during elections, came in contact with the minor girl. Though married, he posed himself as a bachelor and promised the girl to marry. On April 28 of the same year, he picked up the girl when she came out to get provisions.
He confined her to a showroom and raped her. On next day, he left her there with a promise to come back immediately. He, however, failed to turn up. When the girl enquired, it was established that he was married and went to in-laws’ house to bring his wife. The shocked girl then revealed how she was cheated by Anand to her parents. They lodged a complaint with the police at Bhavanipuram police station. The police arrested Anand and produced him in the court. In this backdrop, based on a complaint lodged by girl, the ACB Court questioned 14 witnesses. They established the charges that Anand kidnapped the girl and then raped.
