Pithapuram: Municipal Commissioner Rammohana Rao on Saturday assured the emergency meeting of the municipal council that he would hold negotiations with contractors collecting tax over and above the prescribed limit from traders in weekly cattle market.

Earlier, municipal councilors Namadorababu, Khandavilli Lovaraju and Seeram Appa Rao brought the issue of contractors collecting higher tax from the traders and even revolting against traders who refused to pay the excess tax and demanded the civic body to regulate them.

Assuring the house to hold talks with the contractors, the municipal commissioner said that the contractors should only collect the permitted amount. Speaking on the issue of undertaking repairs to tractors, he said the issue is being figured in the agenda every month and sought to know from the chair how could lakhs of rupees of expenditure is being incurred every month on tractor repairs.

Councilors pointed out that the LED street lights are not working in the town. Divisional Executive Engineer MVK Madhavi told the House that 40 LED lights are yet to be repaired and maintained that tubelights are going to be installed in place of the LED lights not working. Seeram Appa Rao raised the issue of providing basic amenities in Chinnamambapark, installation of LED lights and undertaking repairs to walking track.

Majority of the councilors deferred the issue of supplying power to Sitaramapuram from town feeder to next meeting. However, floor leader of the House Gandepalli Baabi sought to know from the House why the issue should be deferred.
Vice-Chairman of the civic body Pilli Chinna said that the emergency meeting is not the proper forum to discuss the issue and asked the Chair to defer the issue to the next general body meeting. The Commissioner said that the social welfare pensions would be disbursed among the beneficiaries at 6 am in view of current summer. Municipal Chairman Karanam Chinna Rao presided.
