Kurnool: For curbing the irregularities and strengthening of education system at Intermediate level, the officials of the Board of Intermediate Education are planning to introduce biometric attendance in all government and aided Intermediate colleges. During a recent meeting held at Vijayawada, the board officials have discussed the proposal of introducing biometric system in colleges and the Board of Intermediate Education Commissioner has given consent.
Highlights:
- Board of Intermediate Education officials keen to improve quality of education for achieving better results
- More number of admissions can be registered once biometric is in place, say board officials
Considering last year’s dismal results by the Inter students of government and aided colleges, the officials are keen to implement the system. With the implementation of biometric attendance, officials opined that there would be more chances of enhancing qualitative and competitive education on par with the private and corporate colleges.
The government wants to introduce biometric system from next academic year onwards. Earlier, the proposal of biometric system was opposed by the managements of private and corporate colleges as they have to register unaccounted admissions.
There are 42 government and 14 aided Intermediate colleges are functioning in the district. All these colleges are lacking minimum facilities and facing staff shortage. With inadequate facilities, the government colleges are unable to compete with the corporate colleges and achieve the better results. The pass percentage is declining by every passing year. To ensure students attend regularly to class and achieve desired results, biometric attendance would be of great help, opined an official of the Inter board.
Another reason for officials to introduce biometric was to register more number of admissions in government and aided colleges. Every year, admissions to Intermediate colleges usually take place in the month of June, but in the same month spot valuations are also conducted. All the government lecturers and principals are deputed at the spot valuation and are failing to concentrate the admissions.
This time, the board officials are keen to complete the supplementary spot valuation process by the first week of June. Speaking to The Hans India, District Vocational Education Officer (DVEO) TV Subramaneswara Rao said that the Commissioner, during a teleconference, has said that the biometric system would be implemented at government and aided colleges. So far, there is no such direction from the Commissioner, he stated.
