Visakhapatnam: There will be no supply of kerosene and sugar for white card holders from June as the sugar stock in the civil supplies go downs and kerosene stock with all the 30 dealers in the district were exhausted.If at all, kerosene and sugar is to be supplied for June, necessary stocks should have been arrived by now. There are about 12 lakh white card holders in the district who are being given only half a kg of sugar per month at Rs 6.50 for the past 10 years.

All cardholders were supplied sugar for the month of April and there was no allotment of sugar for May and so 35 per cent of the cardholders were only given sugar with the balance of stocks available with the FP dealers and in the civil supplies godowns to the tune of 200 mts. The Central government is supplying subsidised sugar to the state at Rs 13 a kg while its rate in the open market is about Rs 40 per kg.

The sugar allotment for the month of May has been stalled by the Centre as it has already lifted the subsidy. The officials made arrangements for distribution of 400 kilolitres of kerosene in urban areas and 617 kilolitres in rural areas that were available with the dealers for the month of May.According to information available, the district needs 520 mts of sugar per month for public distribution system

while the state government has taken a decision to make Andhra Pradesh as ‘smoke-free state’ by providing LPG connections to all white cardholders under Deepam scheme.As a part of it, more than 90 per cent of the beneficiaries were allotted LPG connections in the district and from June onwards, there will be no supply of kerosene and sugar except rice. Many white ration cardholders alleged that both the Central and State governments were slowly avoiding from its responsibility of public distribution system.
