Visakhapatnam: The city police arrested one of the 10 members of an inter-state gang involved in mobile phones theft on Friday. However, the police failed in terms of recovery of the stolen mobile phones, including high end iPhones and Samsung Galaxy phones. The arrested was identified as 27-year-old Ganga Miya, a native of Bihar.

ACP (Central Crime Station) Y Govinda Rao said that Ganga Miya, along with nine-others from Bihar, has stolen 185 iPhones worth Rs 68 lakh from I-Magic mobile showroom near Ramnagar in the city in the early hours of April 22 and the same gang also stolen Samsung Galaxy mobiles phones worth Rs 3.5 lakh from Big-C mobile phone shop in Vizianagaram town on April 13.

Ganga Miya returned to conduct the recce to commit offences and stayed at a lodge in the city. Based on the information, the police nabbed him and launched a search for the remaining gang members based on his information.The police sources said that the gang sold the stolen phones in Nepal and a few other areas and recovery of the mobile phones seems to be tough task for police.

The ACP said that they have also nabbed a seven-member gang from Bihar during scanning the lodges and guest houses in the city as a part of the security measures for the TDP’s Mahanadu. The Bihar gang entered the city one week ago and planned to commit property offences at various places in the city.
