Recently, recruitment of Maoists was stated to be carried out here. It may be recalled that Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh declared a war on the Maoists and issued a statement to this effect from Delhi 26 days ago.

Later, AP DIG Sambasiva Rao went on record stating that the Maoists are regrouping and floated the Democratic Forum following 40 militant organisations across the country joining hands with the Maoists. Apprehensions are being raised over the possible Maoist violence in the region like kidnappings and murders of politicians and damaging government property.

In the past, the People’s War Group naxalites blasted police stations (Srisailam and Sundipenta), a theatre here, forest department guest house in the region, shot dead former MLA Budda Vengal Reddy, eliminated many TDP leaders in the region. The police recovered a lathe machine in Ahobilam forests used to make guns.

The Maoists understood to have acquired rocket launchers and 51mm mortars from the Afghan guerillas. They also believed to have acquired technology to paralyse cell towers and satellite transmission of information. The Left wing extremists know Kurnool and Prakasam districts,

region around Krishna river and inter-state boundaries of Telugu states like their back of their hands. Some unidentified persons learnt to have enquired from people the style of working of the government, corruption, irregularities, personal information of some crucial TDP leaders in villages on the fringes of the Nallamala forests.
