Vijayawada: Minister for Water Resources Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao on Saturday inaugurated the government – sponsored ‘Eruvaka Pournami’ programme at his adopted village Gollapudi in Vijayawada rural mandal under Mylavaram constituency near Vijayawada. The Minister performed special pujas and started Eruvaka programme.

Earlier, he went to the fields on bullock cart by wearing traditional dress and visited the stalls arranged by agriculture and allied department and enquired about the farming machines.

Speaking on the occasion, the Minister said that the TDP government is giving top priority to agriculture and farmers and in this connection Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu decided to organise ‘Eruvaka’ programme as a big festival to mark the beginning of kharif season in the state, he said.

He informed that the state government would observe Eruvaka Pournami as state festival every year. Soil testing, moisture, weather conditions would be available at CM Dash Board for the convenience of farmers, he added. Rain guns would be available to overcome the rainfall shortage for protecting the crops, he said.

The Minister said that the state government had released plantix app for the benefit of farmers. The Minister made it clear that Polavaram project would be completed by 2019. Vijayawada Rural Mandal Parishad president V Jaganmohana Rao, Vijayawada Agricultural Marketing Committee chairman Jaliparthi Gopala Krishna, Gollapudi sarpanch S Venkateswaramma and others participated.
