As the number of buyers is coming down, the authorities are suggesting farmers to come forward to sell their produce as the price may come even down if the buyers are gone. The auction was conducted for 81 days in the last season and farmers got a maximum price of Rs 97 in the last season whereas they sold tobbacco at Rs 169 on average in this season. This was maximum price in 2004 to 2017 period.

Meanwhile, the authorities are cautioning the farmers to bring their tobacco produce to the auction centre as soon as possible. According to auction centre officer Subrahmanyam, it is estimated that 26 lakh kilograms of tobacco was expected to be brought for auction this year. He said that the price is higher this year as ITC has become major buyer this year. “As many as 15 buyers came to auction centre this year Auction has been conducted for 16.85 lakh kilograms of tobacco this season and tobacco worth of Rs 24.48 crore has been sold until now,” he said.
